I love the name Seamus, but was not allowed to name my son that, because his daddy has a dog named Shaymus when he was younger. We went with Eian, keeping with the Irish roots.

The only drawback for Seamus is that many people (at least where I am, in middle America) will probably mis-pronounce it. But then again, with the popularity of Harry Potter (in which one of the classmates is named Seamus Finnegan), many of the children he would go to school with would recognize it.

If you go with Shaun, I'd spell it 'Sean' or 'Shawn' because I just don't like the way it looks with the 'au' in there, but that's just a weird me thing.

I like Seamus and I like Shaun but I like the Irish form spelled Sean. That is my sons name.

I love Seamus, and with that spelling. Shawn/Sean/Shaun is so commom. Although, if I went with that I would spell it Sean. The other spellings are not authentic. Seamus may also get the nickname "Shea" which I also love. What a strong, masculine name with such character!

Seamus is the Gaelic name for James. I have a nephew named Seamus. I think that it is a fabulous name. Good luck.

I love the name Seamus - was my dad's nickname (he was a James obviously).

But Shaun is also a nice name - just more common.

Just my .01

Seamus is SO Irish! Very cool. He could go by "Shay" for a nickname.
