How to manually remove About:Blank virus that is REALLY progressed?

I got my computer freed from its icy grasp, but my neighbors have had it on theirs much MUCH longer than I have. Its successfully hyjacked pretty much the whole system. I was able to DL spybot and prevx, both of which were able to get rid of it on my system while in safe mode... but some how the virus has screwed up their computer so bad that i cant run those programs in safemode, OR regular mode. The computer freezes, or the whole thing stops.

Its horrible. The whole computer doesnt work. Aparently, durring all the attemps to get the anti malware programs to run, the virus shut down the internet, because i cant get ANYTHING IE or Firefox to connect to the internet. The connection is fine, the RR modem is showing that its functioning 100%.. but the browsers wont work.

Anyway, I know theres a way to manually remove the virus thru alt ctrl delete, but i dont know what it is...

uuugh, you have to read the question, my internets hyjacked. I have free malware destoryers, but the virus wont let me run ANYTHING, even in safe mode.

Here are 3 ideas.

1) If you can get into windows, go to start, run, "msconfig" and see if you can reset the computer to a date long ago, before the problem arose.

2) If that fails the best option is to FDISK and reinstall the operating system. You may never be able to recover completely otherwise.

3) The hardest solution. Download a registry editor on another computer. Transfer it to the infected machine using a stick hard drive. Use the registry editor to remove all entries that appear related to this virus. I have used this method myself and been successful.

There are several suggestions out there, but don't go into msconfig. If you can get Windows up, click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System tools and find System Restore. Pick a date before this all started and restore your system to that date. Anything you've downloaded since that time will be gone, so if you downloaded spyware, etc., you'll have to do it again. I use SpyBot and Ad-Aware, and Avast antivirus, and manage to keep my computer free of spyware, ads and viruses.

Another suggestion is if you have a CD burner, download AVG or Avast from the link some one gave you, burn it on a CD then put the CD into your neighbor's CDRom drive and run the antivirus program from there. If you don't have a CD burner, but do have lots of floppies, there is a utility called HJSplit. Been around for years, and I've used it for years. It splits big files into equal parts so they will fit on floppies. It tells you how to do this, and how to re-unite the files back into one. This might be another way to get the antivirus and spyware programs onto the neighbor's computer.

Using ctrl-alt-del will bring up the task manager, and allow you to stop some processes, but it won't find and eliminate a virus or spyware. About.blank hides in Internet Explorer. The about.blank virus is addressed here:

i had the same problem and i tryed everything to remove aboutblank and i did for a while and then it came back, it all depends what u downloaded, it could be add on such as aoltoolbar yahoo tool bar orrr ur web page got highjacked ,from my experience i sugest to you is format your hardrive and start all over again, and if u do that update your comp and download

,zonealarm,
spybotsearch&destroy,
windows defender from microsoft,
spyware blaster,
avgvirus scan if you download all this programs after u reinstall windows again. is beter to start fresh with out having to much problems. i had to learn the hard way and download them in the order i gave you. and good luck
