I posted a questions a few hours ago about Kramer's comments and got some valid answers. I thought of a new question dealing with this whole incident. Though no one would ever argue (well sadly to say some would) that Kramer was right, do you feel that if Chris Rock was being heckled by two white members in the audience and started calling them crackers and using derogatory names towards them, he would be considered a racist? And would the media make as big of a deal of that as they are Kramer's situation? All opinions welcome!

first, i didnt say my whole opinion on the situation..so i dont know what the one lady is talking about by saying people like me...and yes, sorry if i am in the mindset racism is racism no matter what race is involved, its just that when a white person is at fault, thats when it gets attention

in the scenario you mentioned with chris rock calling white heclers "crackers" and other deragatory names, i don't think it would even make the news. i'm sure audience members would have laughed right along with rock and not even thought about it being potentially racist. i'm sorry to say, but there definitely is a double standard for this issue.

I agree that using vulgar language especially in a Chris Rock act where Chris has patented a formula of black-versus-white comedy is more socially acceptable for a black American. The media could well ignore it (other than putting into a DVD and stamping it with an explicit language/warning label!)

I agree that there would probably be a lesser deal made out of your hypothetical situation, but here's why:

a. "Honky" and "cracker" are much less of a threat and an insult and does not go deeper because it does not have the historical context of slavery and lynchings like the word "***-er" does (I personally find these terms FUNNY and would not cry over being called these names),

b.these words have other normal, harmless meanings, whereas "***-er" has only one

c. a black minority who is outnumbered by whites using such terms does not have the same effect as a member of the majority using racial slurs against a minority;

That said, I agree that two wrongs wouldn't make a right, but you have to put the two in the right context because I think we can all agree that the word "***-er" used by whites against blacks is an ugly and shameful legacy in our history. Calling us "honky" and "cracker" in return in anger just doesn't have that same impact.

it form of feels that every person heard Richards say the N-word, yet no one heard what he exchange into asserting with regard to the word. basically, he exchange into decrying that folk, fantastically black people, could provide such potential to the word as to reason riots. curiously, it continues to be real in the present day. quite of being praised for his fact, that this word has a protracted-lasting potential, he exchange into compelled to make an apology for utilising it.
