A friend of mine is asking what the repercussions would be they break their contract with Maxim Health when they are the ones sposoring their stay here in the United States.

The reason he gave me was that he wasn't being given as much hours as the regular hospital employees get, and that he's better off working outside an agency.

Thanks for your input Just Q. I too, realized the points you made and conveyed them to my friends (a couple, both nurses, with two children and mounting bills) when they came to me for information.
They dare not ask the agency themselves for fear of rousing suspicion that they intend to break the contract, as opposed to a negotiation or compromise.
They're even willing to pay to get out of the contract (which is an option offered by a similar agency).
I've tried to email Maxim Health for the information, but they rejected my query.

Breaking a contract like this could result in losing their sponsorship and could cost them money.
When I say cost them money,it could make them obligated to pay for their transportation to the US that the company sponsoring them has paid,it could cost them money to get out of the inital contract and then there is losing their sponsorship which could cost them the money to return to their original country unless they can find other sponsorship.
Anyone who signs a contract like this does so because the contract is made to look too good to be true and few people really look at them in the worst case scenerio such as your friend is faced with today. . .they always see the brighter side and fail to see the downside.
I would suggest relooking at the contract as it sounds as the sponsor is falling short of it's contractual agreement.
In a case like this generally the sponsor gives less hours but same benefits as full time personnel that have not signed a contract, the only difference is that the contracted person can not leave and is committed for the period they signed up for.
I would also suggest that your friend speak with those responsible for signing them up in the first place and see if they can renegotiate the contract.
I would suggest that your friend do EVERYTHING they can before opting to ignore the contract.

simple, you break a contract, they will quit to sponsor, your friend needs to talk to an immigration lawyer on this issue, good luck
