I wondered if they'd work since the gamecube controller works with the nintendo wii.

I don't think so because the PS3 is completely wireless when it comes to controllers

wouldn't surprise me, since sony rips off so many of nintendo's/xbox's ideas. in fact, Nintendo HELPED sony make the first playstation. don't believe me? look on the bottom of your N64 if you still have one. there's that slot there: it was to attach to the playstation, possibly to help improve the graphics. but then sony got all huffy when nintendo didn't want to use discs and made their own system. and xbox got where it is from back-stabbing dreamcast. that's probably why i don't feel much enmity towards nintendo. anyway, back to your question, i actually don't think it'll work considering the PS3 controller has motion sensing (like the Wii) and a menu button (like the xbox 360...)

ps3 has a usb port which means a ps2 controller cant plug on

Just like ninja said, in most games it will be the same, PS2 and PS1 controllers will work for most games.

Yeah it should work. They always do that so the people will want to buy the product they just made.

yes but it won't be able to use the six axis wireless functions in certain games.
