Blue Tooth is a local wireless network that different objects can use to share "services".

Wi fi is a protocol that allows you to surf the internet without wires. So bluetooth can be used for more than wifi. Wifi is faster than bluetooth for data access.

In reality you will get a bluetooth phone with a bluetooth hands free accessory (the thing in their ears) and be happy.

Wifi is more for computers than for phones :)

What c r ap some people talk.
Both are types of wireless communication. Blue tooth is lower powered. It uses the same lower bandwidth space as 802.11b wi fi it is limited. It has a max bandwidth of 720kbps at optimum performance. It has a max operating distance of 10m
As such Blue tooth is better suited to low power devices such as phones and PDA's. It is much slower than wi fi. so has limitations such as distance and is not suitable at all for transfer of large amounts of data such as Internet browsing.
One of the main advantages of Blue tooth is that it uses frequency hoping, changing up to 1600 times a second making it very secure.

Wi fi uses 2 modulation techniques 802.11b at 2.45Ghz for up to 11mbps and 802.11g for up to 54Mbps. This is the normal type for new devices. Ranges are vastly increased up to 80m. However it is necessary to ensure that the signal is encrypted as it is easy to scan for it and lock on to.
An increasing number of devices are employing wi fi including laptops, PCs, printers and PDA's. A recent addition to the market are IP phones that connect directly to a wireless router and are able to connect directly to VOIP service providers such as Skype without going through the pc, or even having to have the pc on.
Down side to these is the low battery time between charges.
