Ask one of his friends that he plays with to select a set that he will like. And make sure they can be exchanged. I like to include the receipt in a small sealed envelope inside the card. That way they won't have to feel bad about asking for the receipt if they need to exchange/return, but it's still tasteful--not right there in their face.

Does he play often? If so he may know how many grams his darts he has now weighs so you may have to sneak that out of him somehow. Or look at his current darts and they may say.....If he doesn't have any yet, you can just pick the weight for him. I would go with 20 grams. You will see what I'm talking about when you look for them. They will all say how many grams they are.

Make sure you know whether you are buying steel tip or soft tip.

They sell either ones at almost any sporting good store or even walmart depending on how nice of a set you want.

This is a hard, one. All darts vary in weight, fleight and personal prefrence. You need to go to a professional dart shop for the ultimate perfect dart set, however, you will be paying big bucks. and there is a chance that the dart weight may not be ideal for him...

... it may be ideal to take him along with you... its a difficult gift.

Next time he's talking about darts act like you are interested and ask why some people pay so much for some types. He'll tell you why if he knows. You then something like "They must be mail order or something". He'll tell you right where to go if he knows.

IMPORTANT: Immediately drop the subject and go to something else or he'll get a hint.

a decent set is easy just pay more
but the two important things are weight and barrel design he will have a preference in both if he has darts get him something similar or just get accessories like flights and a nice case
