It seems that everywhere we live there's mildew. We try to combat it, but eventually it always wins. We try to move away from the problem (since we rent anyway). Here's what I want to know... What sorts of things have people used to clean mildew away FOR GOOD? Are any of them natural? I've heard Bleach works well, but I can't breathe around bleach (bad lungs). We're currently trying Vinegar... the instructions we read say to spray it on and not wipe it away... Do we wash it away frist then follow the instructions? Do we wipe it away after a day? I don't really get those instructions. How DO we move away from Mildew?
What should we look for in a home to know that it should be mildew free? Also, it happens everywhere in the apt. we're in, but mostly around the windows, which are always full of condensation.
Lastly, do I have any grounds to "stick it" to my landlord over this? Landlords never seem to help with this issue... WHY? It's THEIR building afterall.
Thanks for the help!

Oh! And does anyone know what kind of windows will not get constant condensation?

I was previously a licensed mold abatement supervisor from Ny so I can answer this for you. First of all, DO NOT REMOVE THE MOLD YOURSELF! There are several types of mold, none of which are healthy to breathe. If you are breathing black mold spores you will have serious health problems. ( and you said your lungs are bad already? perhaps it is from your continuous contact with mold in which case you may need to contact legal aid)
Your landlord is mandated by law to make sure your rental is free from mold and the MUST have it removed. You can contact the EPA ( Enviornmental Protection Agency ) to request information on the laws. I no longer have these numbers sorry. Regardless, the only household cleaner that will fix your problem is bleach. Vinegar is not going to remove it for good. So... here is more advice... until you are able to get your landlord to fix the mold problem here are some suggestions:
get to the hardware store and buy 6 mil plastic. Also get clear tape and secure the area in which you are having the mold issues. You do not want to breathe it! ( keep your reciepts too!) Take pictures if you are able.
To avoid future issues with mold in bathrooms or rooms that seem to have more humidity, crack a window open so it can breathe and keep the windows clean. There are sprays you can use daily that prevent mold( mostly bathroom cleaners).
Good luck!

Lysol spray gets rid of mold and mildew. Don't wipe it away.
