I had my first son last year and with him I put on about 45 pounds, which the doctor was not happy about. Since I have had him I had lost alot of the baby weight but not all of it, so im still a little over weight. I dont want to blow up this time around like I did the first time, and I know the doctors say the bigger you are when you start our your pregnancy the less weight you really need to gain! Now im not huge now, but I just want to know good diets, and exercise routines for me to do to keep my weight gain to as little as possible!

Your doctor's a jerk. He/she should be more concerned about getting your developing baby the nutrients it needs than exactly how much weight you gain. Just each healthy and do a moderate cardio exercise (like you should anyway) and let nature decide the right weight gain for your pregnancy.

Make sure that you are taking your vitamins, first of all, so that you don't take from the baby. I would say that if you eat healthy foods and exercise every day (or every other) it will help you to not gain too much, to have an easier labor and to have you already in an exercise routine when baby gets here to lose the weight. I've gained 59 pounds in my pregnancy so far, but you can't hardly tell by looking at me. The numbers don't necessarily mean anything. Remember, the ultimate goal is a healthy baby.

pregnancy is NOT a time to diet or start a work out routine. However that being said, you should be eating healthy foods, (fruits veggies complex carbs) Try following the food guide. Most pregnant women only need 300 extra calories per day which is as simple as two slices of toast and a glass of orange juice. Typically a non pregnant woman of average size should be eating 1800 calories. Your best bet is to ask your doctor set you up with a nutritionist or a dietician who can help you decide the safest and best foods to eat during your pregnancy. Thats what your doctor is here for. take advantage of it.
Good Luck

Just make sure that with whatever extra food you are consuming, you need to be active. Every day after dinner, walk a couple of blocks. Just eat what you need to for the baby and be sure to stay active. That will give your metabolism a kick start when you start to try to loose the baby weight.
No matter how big you are, it is never a good idea to go on a diet.

With my first pregnancy, since I am a scrawny gal, my doctor insisted I eat a lot of ice cream and pudding. I gained weight like she wanted me to, but it took me about a year to lose the extra pounds. With my second pregnancy, a new doctor told me he wanted me to get most of my calories from plant sources, i.e. nuts, grains, fruits, and vegetables. I could live off of peanut butter and apples, plus cereal. :) I was down to my pre-pregnancy weight within 2 or 3 months after baby, after just walking for excercise and eating good yummy food.

45 lbs is a good amount but I wouldnt say it was terrible. Eat for one, because the EAT for Two thing isnt really true, do not diet. Healthy snacks like fruits and veggies when you are craving. Not too much much sodium or breads.

Go easy on exercise too. Too much can hurt the baby

I'm on a diet for gestational diabetes and I've only gained 18 lbs and I'm 34 weeks...I know you probably dont have GD but it's a good diet to follow..instead of eating 3 times a day, you eat 6 times...I have to count carbs and really watch my sugar intake..I eat lots of fruits and vegetables...lots of salad...whole grains, dairy, anyway- if you want more info feel free to email me and I'll go farther into detail...or you may just see a dietician...

Continue your healthy lifestyle throughout your pregnancy. And don't convince yourself that you're eating for two. You should only need a few hundred more calories a day. Continue your workouts, although you will need to modify it so it isn't intense. Eats lots of fruits and vegetables, wheat bread, etc. They are all great for baby's development and your health!

don't necessarily "diet" but just watch what you eat. eat a lot of foods that are good for you, and that don't have excessive amounts of fat. keep exercise to a minimum, doing too much cardio can hurt the baby. try something light such as walking. but the main thing is don't deprive yourself of nutrients because that will only hurt your baby.
