I have a 5th grader that is having trouble writing a speech,it is for 4H and his teacher made it a class assignment,go figure. I was wondering, since he made his topic about Thanksgiving,if anyone has any ideas on how he should start his speech or what kind of things he should say? He doesn't really know what to write and I certainly can't and won't do it for him. Any suggestions on how to get it started? Thanks

How about having your child take each one of the "H's" and write just a little about each that he/she is thankful for?...I think this would give some simple, practical structure to the speech, and should play right into the ability level and creativity of a 10 or 11 year old...Good luck...(Former H.S. make little candy bags for the kids in class and have him type his speech and cut it and put each sentence or two in a bag and number it...then when he gives his speech the class can have a bag of goodies plus it will help him out b/c they can read his speech out loud and he can just point to the next person (ie number 1 please read your note, number 2 , etc) at the same time he can just show off props that he has at the same time...

Talk about where thanksgiving originated (do research on the web), how important it was and what its all about.
