This is NORMAL.

A 1 week old baby will make you feel like you do nothing but nurse. That is how you bring in your supply. At this point, you should be nursing AT LEAST every 2 hours. Nursing more is good. Follow your baby's lead. Know that breastmilk digests in about 90 mins and that your baby's tummy is about the size of her fist.

I wouldn't worry about a supply problem at this point. Honestly, you don't have one. :-) What you're experiencing is normal. Just nurse, nurse, nurse and nurse some more. That is the best way to boost supply and it is what you and your baby need to do right now.

The link below will help you know what is normal.

Call your local La Leche League Leader if you have concerns. She'll answer your questions and she may be willing to visit you at home if you need her. Her help is FREE!

You are doing great. Your baby's stomach is only the size of a marble so she will need to eat every 1-2 hours. the more your breastfeed the more milk you will make. You are probably getting your milk in now and that is why you are feeling really full. Try pumping out some milk to help relieve the pressure. Babies also have growth spurts at 1 week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks, You might feel as if you are not making enough milk, but you are and everything will be fine. Good luck.

Don't give up. It sounds like your baby is getting plenty, given the number of wet and dirty diapers she's having daily. Sometimes babies just want to feed very frequently, or "cluster feed". It's normal. And sucking is the only way babies have to make themselves feel better. It's all they know how to do.

It sounds like the baby is latching on well. Are you sore? A lot of first time moms find the side lying position easy and convenient. Same with the football hold. Just look around online. There's tons of information about breastfeeding avaiable.

If you have a very fancy scale, you can try weighing the baby, then feeding her, and then weighing her again. If she eats 2 ounces, she'll gain two ounces. Makes sense, huh? Your pediatrician should be okay with you doing this at the dr's office too.

Breast feeding is really hard, and good for you for sticking with it. Lots of women give up before they ever leave the hospital. If you still feel like you're having trouble, you can call the hospital where you delivered and see if you can schedule a lactation consult as an outpatient. Some hospitals will require you to go to the hospital, some will come to your home.

The first week is the hardest. Try pumping or feeding her more if you feel like she is still hungry. sometimes they just want something to suck on. It promotes good jaw movement. Most newborns do eat every 2-3 hours. All this sounds very normal. Try going to barnes and noble and geting this book called the womanly art of breastfeeding or any breastfeeding book for that matter. Hope this helps. Good luck

Breastfeeding is basic supply and demand. The more your baby nurses, the more milk you will produce. It is the baby's 'sucking' that triggers more milk production. It takes some getting used to and you are only a week into it. Give it some time and patience. Good luck

My answer to you is don't give up, if you can do it for the first few weeks it will get easier. Its tough at first but it will get easier.
The more you baby breastfeeds the more milk you will produce.
The first month it may feel like the baby is on you more than off, but it will subside. Don't give up, its the best thing for the baby.
