Really confused! Whats the difference between spyware and adware? Whats a really good anti virus scan that gets everything? I have tried loads, but their manual ones where i have to click every little thing it comes up with. Is there a good one that I can download and just scans and i can leave it and carry on in the background, then you click to repair it and it just does it!! I am using Ad-Aware SE Personal at the minute and also, Advanced Windows Care V2. I have a windows firewall, too. Please help" something simple but works!! thanks! x

There is little difference; Spyware is usually malitious software which logs infomation about your habits and feeds it back, whereas adware usually triggers, popups, unwanted homepages, adverts, etc. Both are malicious and can be installed as part of a larger program, dodgy emails or doggy websites. Ad-aware's good provided you download the updates; and I have Norton anti-virus set up to scan weekly.

You need one firewall, one anti virus, and at least three good anti spyware.
There is no software that you can just click and leave, the nearest is Microsoft Windows Defender which you get from Microsoft.com
And there is no foolproof program whtat will pick up everything. Nod32 from Eset is closest but very technical and demanding to use which is not what you want.
Spyware collects info about you. Adware gives you an advert or collects info for a manufacturer about how you use their program. Theres not a huge difference.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.

For all your spyware / adware needs Norton anti virus / anti spyware will do the trick for you as it does for millions others.Also another very gd piece of anti spyware software is Spyware Doctor ........ i've used it for years and am very satisfied with it's performance. Hope this helps m8.

Spyware will report back to a person what u have been looking up, Adware - popups, strange programs on computer....
I use Spybot - its free and the best!

Try PC Cillin 2007 from Trend Micro. The cheapest place is find it is Ebay.
All the other answers here are right except the Norton. Mine and several other people who used it found it to get overwhelmed by the internet.

I use avg free 7.5 for my anti-virus I've never had any problems with it and it is not a cpu hog like the more well known names.
I like spybot search and destroy and lavasoft se personal for scanning for spyware.

Spyware is treatment of getting information of your computer and report it to the sender. adware is something that actually add up to your computer without your need. so, i would suggest you use SPYBOT. good luck.

Download free Lavasoft and Ewido from the net.
You need both - no program gets rid of all bugs.
Update and run them daily.
