It's pretty easy. Just set the jumper on the back to 'slave' (there should be a diagram printed on the hard drive, or the letters 'SL' printed above one set of pins), then connect the power connector to a spare one from your system, and connect the interface to a spare IDE or SATA connector - you can unplug your CD-ROM drive temporarily if you don't have any spares. The cables usually have 2 connectors each on them, you can use either of the connectors.

Of course, make sure your computer is turned off while you are doing all of this. Unplug it, too, just to be sure.

change your new hard drive to master, and the old bad drive to slave, then you can access it.
