Unfortunately the president of my company recently passed away. We are a small company, and I don't know if we will be bought out or not. I've only been working at the company for two months, so I am concerned that if we get bought out, that my job may be in jeopardy.

My company has a few federal government contracts that it is obligated to perform whether we are bought out or not. So even if we get bought out, the new company would have to perform these contracts.

I'm concerned that if bought out, that the new company may not decide to retain me, or that if they do, they may not do so at my current salary. I am otherwise happy with my position, but just to protect myself, I have listed my resume on Monster and Careerbuilder and have already gotten some hits.

Has anyone else been through this?

I worked in 4 companies in the last 15+ years, without leaving my room - one company acquired and other and so on.

When a company is acquired, there is always vulture shock, reorg, some layoffs. Some people leaves just hearing about a larger company coming in. There were cases the acquiring company raised our salary just to keep key persons in place.

In general, there` are no rules how acquisitions and transitions are handled.

Good luck anyway!

from my own experience, my company is the one who takes over most of the time, but to us, its "nice" to hear it called merger.

the only thing i remember, if they do acquire one company and if there are similar position, they choose the one who produce positive outcome for whatever reason it maybe, then they give you option, usually you can volunteer if you were called for, either to accept the package or you can locate or apply for another position. package depends on your year of service. if you are a good worker, well experienced, working history is impeccable, you don't have to worry, you can get by cause they will assist you stay in the company. but if you are a bad influence, you might as well accept the package.

usually you can rest as long as you are able to collect unemployment until you can you get a new one that you are qualified for.
