These two links will show you how to decorate syrofoam balls.

One is with ribbon, the other with sequins. I haven't tried the ribbon one, but the one with sequins pinned into the styrofoam can look very nice. It DOES use a lot of pins - so maybe make sure the balls you use are not too large!

Have fun!!

I would say making tree ornaments using sequences and pins. Buy different color sequences and use the straight pins with different color tops on them (be very careful with the pins so that the kids don't poke themselves). Or perhaps use the sequences without the straight pins and just glue them around the styrofoam balls and let the kids decorate them any way they want.
Kids can also make snowmen & snowwomen by gluing the styrofoam balls then decorating with felt, the goggly eye, or anything else like that.

Well, of course you can have them decorate the balls with ribbons and stuff. for tree ornaments.

My nanny told me of a project, you take a tube sock and fill the bottom with rice and tie it off, then make a middle segment by putting a styrofoam ball in, tie it off (with white thread, I imagine), then do the same with a smaller ball for the head. Turn the top of the sock inside out for a hat and decorate the snowman with buttons or whatever for eyes, a mouth, etc.

If you want more info on this reply and I will ask her in more detail.

Ok. I am assuming you are young and probably don't have a ton of money, so I have a great idea. I saw this on one of my HGTV shows and it was great as a recycle project. Get a lot of those free or blank disc (CD, DVD) and cut them into little squares (1/4" by 1/4") then glue them with the top side against the foam and hang like a disco ball.

Bulb ornaments, santa heads, snowmen. Paint them with tempra, and then sprinkle with glitter and the glitter will stick.

The easiest thing to do is cover it in glue, then roll it in glitter.
