Two of my kids knew exactly what they wanted to do in college, and exactly where they wanted to go. They each applied to just one school and were accepted ED. THat was that. My third kid just didnt know what he wanted to do in college. He was a great student and had lots of choices. So he didnt apply ED anywhere, he applied to nine schools and got accepted by eight. But by the time the acceptance came he had thought about things more and was ready to make a decision. It was still tough but he felt better about it than if he had to decide in October.

I think that most of the schools should keep the ED. The elite schools may drop it to give a better shot to kids who are not so well counseled, but for most schools it is a help to the students.

I actually think it's a good idea, but it has it's setbacks. I myself entered my college by early admission and got many credits out of the way before becoming a "traditional freshman". But my school has a large fee if I do want to transfer schools.
