I am in Phoenix Arizona. How should I water my Brazillian Pepper tree? What should I do to help it grow and keep it healthy? Right now the tree is only half full of leaves. I've had it for 2 years and its never really grown much. Its definately not dead, just haven't really done much for it. Any help would be appreciated.

Just as another responder suggested, water deeply and infrequently to a depth of 2 or 3 feet. During the summer this is likely to be once per week. During the winter this will be once per month. Be sure to water evenly underneath the entire crown of the tree and beyond if possible. Roots are capable of growing up to 3 times longer than the crown is wide.

Edit: I don't know that a lot of water is truly bad for this tree; it is an invasive species in Hawaii and Florida.

I suspect the reason it isn't growing is because it is only being watered by a few irrigation emitters directly at the base of the tree. As I suggested above, the watering pattern needs to extend away from the base of the tree, up to 3 times the trees width. Add additional emitters beneath the tree and this winter water deeply two times per month. Come spring, water this entire area deeply once a week until temps cool off in the fall. Reduce the watering again next fall/winter. Consider buying an all-purpose fertilizer and apply it next February/March.

Deep watering and infrequently. This means to water slowly until it soaks down about 2-3 feet, and then do not water again until the soil starts to dry down at the root level. A metal rod can be used to test how far down the soil is moist. It will easily go through moist soil and be hard to push through dry soil.

Lots of water. Just think about it logically. Brazil= rainforests+warm temperatures=foliage. Water it a lot, especially in Phoenix, Arizona.
