This came up in my A+ hardware class and the teacher wasn't sure. If you have a USM floppy drive, a A: internal floppy and no B: drive, does the USB get assigned the next 'floppy' drive letter, being B: or the next normal drive letter.

The letters A: and B: are reserved for use by floppy drives only - however, since the drive isn't connected through the FDC, it will most likely get assigned the next regular drive letter (E: or whatever), instead of B:. The drivers have special permissions to override the BIOS restrictions and take letter A: if it's not in use, but I'm pretty sure if you already have an A, it won't be able to take B:.

It would be assigned the next available drive after C or D just like a usb flash drive or usb hard drive would. The A and B drives are reserved for internal devices attached to the motherboard through the floppy drive controller. It's a legacy of past configurations but necessary since the drive is removable and would require the relettering of drives if disconnected.

No utility ought to be needed. Assuming you're utilising living house windows XP/vista/7 you have to be waiting to plug in the USB rigidity and the working equipment ought to p.c.. it up immediately. you have to be waiting to get right of entry to the rigidity by utilising going to My laptop. it is going to be E: or F: or something like that. The call ought to examine detachable Flash rigidity or something comparable. you have to be waiting to double click on that rigidity and then drag and drop the archives which you extremely elect to circulate onto the rigidity.
