I was told by someone that if you call sprint and tell them that you are moving to an area that they don't have service that they have to cancel your service without charging you the termination fee, is that true? I was thinking that I would call and ask them to change my number because I am moving and when they ask where then I would name a state like wyoming and when they say they can't provide service then try to get out of the termination fee that way. Do you think it will work? Has anyone ever tried this before and with what result??

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!! take it from me cause i am a sprint retention supv....

even if you move out of svc area you will still be charged an early termination fee. it is not the policy of sprint nextel to waive an early termination fee, even if you move out of coverage. it is listed in our terms and conditions that we can't guarantee coverage everywhere and if u break contract u will be charged. there are other options avail to u like roam/porting to nextel or doing a transfer of liability where u transfer ur contract to someone else's name. if you choose not to take these options then u will be charged either $150 or $200 etf depending on when u signed ur agreement.

we only waive etfs if you pass away or are deployed to an active military zone and u have to prove it to us first before we will waive it!!!

Just remember if you don't tell them the truth, it will come back and bite you in the butt. What happens if you want to go back to them later on, the notes would still be in their system.

Do you get service where you live now??
If your service is terrible, tell them that. I don't think it would work if you have had the phone for a long time.

How long til your contract is up?
Maybe you can have them put your phone on standby, then you cant use it and I think its around 5 bucks a month. I would call them and ask if your phone is on standby, does the contract continue or stop while it is on standby.

If they continue the contract while not using the phone and paying 5 bucks a month, that sure beats paying $200 at one shot, then just wait til the end of the contract and then cancel it with no extra fee. If you have 10 months to go, standby would only be 50 @ 5 bucks a month(not sure on exact price)for the entire time vs.the 200 cancellation fee. Call them but dont give them your number, just get transferred to customer service then ask them. This way it wont show in the notes on your account.

good luck to you!!!

Like the other answerer said I do not think there is a state that sprint does not offer service.

I do not think you can get out of it with a termination fee, but I called Sprint to try and upgrade as I kept going over my minutes and costing me a fortune. They would not upgrade me without renewing my contract for another 2 yrs.

This really pissed me off so I told them I wanted to cancel. I was ready to pay the fee and everything. They transferred me to another guy who gave me double my previous minutes, dropped my monthly billing base by 30% and offered me a new phone for free. They will do anything to keep you from cancelling.

Did you sign a contract? If so, you should have a copy handy to look up the termination policy. It changes from year to year. My guess is unless you are moving out of the country, you will have service. Remember, they are also Nextel now too.

I have your answer. Call sprint and tell them that you are in the military and you are being shipped oversees, Legally they have to let you out of your contract. If they ask you to send something that proves it, just make something up and e-mail it to them,,,,,,I did this and got out of my contract
