Your email. IMHO an 8 year old child does not need to have unfettered access to email or the internet. This way he/she can only access it with you present.

Some email systems that advertise themselves as being child-friendly are:
Surf Monkey (http://familyinternet.about.com/cs/filteringsoftware/a/aasurfmonkey.htm)
Zoobuh (http://www.zoobuh.com/)
Kidmail (http://www.kidmail.net/learnmore.asp)
Email for Kids (http://www.email-for-kids.com/)
KiddoNet (http://www.kiddonet.com/)

I know in hotmail you can setup so that only your contacts emails go to your inbox. You could set up ure kids contact list, so he only recieves their emails.
Only prob is you cant prevent adding new contacts or viewing spam/junk folder

Yahoo is good. If you put they are under 16, it makes you verify the parents age with a credit card number, then lets you put secuirty options on.
