I've read all the pros and cons on circumsisions but would like to know if it is such a big deal these days. Please let me know if you or your boyfriend/son/whoever is circumsized or uncircumsized. I guess you could say I'm taking an informal poll.

My husband is circ'd but we decided to leave our son uncut...

The health reasons are bogus: should we cut off our daughter's labia because she might get yeast infections, and it's be "cleaner"? No way! That's barbaric genital mutilation! But it's ok for sons?!?

Also, roughly 40% of boys born these days are left uncut... so the "locker room" argument is also B.S.

Why hurt a baby?!?

I am not circumsized. The only problem is that if you are not circumsized you must be sure to keep yourself clean. I rinse after every pee, and shower daily. They say there is a difference in sensitivity, but I wouldn't know since I have no way to compare. I'm not going to get circumsized at this time in my life. If your not going to do it to a child, as a parent, you have to make sure they keep themselves clean until they learn to do it for themselves.

My son who is 18mo was circumcised at birth and so was my boyfriend. I did it for health reason (even if some don't agree, I made the decision knowing all the facts). I had an ex who was uncircumcised and he hated it. Said most girls have never seen one and think its gross. Said he has to take extra care when cleaning it etc. I dont know of any guys who think that because they were circumsised at birth (which most in US are) that it was a form of mutilation.

All 3 of my kids and my husband are circumcised. I only know of 1 parent in my area that did not have her son circumcised. ( I am sure there are others) Boys, typically dont have very good hygiene practices and there is risk of infection with an uncircumcised penis due to improper cleaning. It is more "normal" I guess to have them circumcised. Everyone uses the locker room example- dont want to be different. I heard my first son screaming down the halls, it was pretty awful. With my last son I told the pediatrician I wanted to know her approach as far as numbing agents and pain relievers before I consented. Things have changed in the last 13 years. They didnt do anything for my first son, they said they couldnt feel it. Like a dummy I believed them. Be as informed as possible before you make that decision.

The doctor assisted variety is preferable to the religious rite variety. Fewer shortcut induced mistakes.

I've only encountered the cut variety. And I've encountered a good amount. Not hideous numbers, but I'm no shrinking violet either.

Circumsized is better it looks more normal than uncircumsized and it is proven to be more healthy.

A dick's a dick. Who the hell cares? As long as it functions fine, I don't give a crap whether it's circumsized or not.

And no, it's NOT a big deal. In fact, it's considered quite barbaric and a form of self-mutilation to a lot of guys. As long as they keep it clean, it doesn't matter.
