I am not a doctor, but both my parents are, so although I can not give you a first-hand perspective, I can tell you that it is extremely demanding. My parents worked from 7am-9pm including weekends for the first years of their medical profession (more when they were interns and residents). Their schedule got to be a bit more flexible with time, but it requires 10 years and more to establish yourself as a recognized doctor and build a practice. You must constantly attend conferences and seminars and keep yourself updated with new research findings, practices, pharmaceuticals, etc. It's very demanding and unless you love it - unless it's your calling, I don't recommend it. But if this is really what you want to do, go for it and make it happen.

You can major in anything you want in college. You do have to take 2 semesters of biology, 2 semesters of general chemistry, 2 semesters of organic chemistry, 2 semesters of physics (all of these classes also have to have a lab), 1 semester of calculus, and 2 semesters of english.
Everyone has to take the MCAT, which is a standard test. It has a physical sciences component that covers general chemistry and physics, biological sciences that covers biology and organic chemistry, verbal reasoning, and 2 essays.
Medical school is 4 years. The first two years are science classes that you take in a lecture hall. The second two years are clinical rotations. After you graduate from medical school you apply for a residency position. The amount of time spent in residency depends on what you want to specialize in.
It really isn't that bad, but you have to be sure that this is what you want to do. It is difficult and you do have to make sacrifices, but I can also tell you that it can be incredibly rewarding!
