No! No, no, no... bettas need at least 70degree water. goldfish are coldwater fish. bettas need 7.0pH and that is nearly impossible to achieve with goldfish. bettas are aggressive, but that is really only a small part of why they can't be kept together... goldfish should not be kept with anything but goldfish!

Don't put a goldfish in the same tank with a Betta.

Reasons:

1. The Betta is a tropical fish and the goldfish is a cold-water fish.

2. Don't put a male Betta with any fish that has a fancy fins like the Betta does. The male Betta will think that the other fish is a male Betta and will attack it.

By the way, Betta's are happier in an aquarium tank. Goldfish should not be kept in a bowl at all. A small Betta bowl is just too small for a goldfish.
They need proper aeration and filtered water. You can have a Betta in a bowl, but it would do much better in an aquarium tank. Bettas have been known to live in pools of water; they are hardy. But if they are living in puddles, it is most likely because the rest of the water in the pond has dried up. So, get at least a 5-gallon tank for your betta.

No... explanation: confer with Rockstar and Gary C. P.S --> A Betta is a territorial fish, no longer an aggressive fish. in case you prefer to ascertain only organic aggression, get some puffers. A Betta in effortless terms assaults fish that pose of venture to its territory. and in spite of if the Betta confuses the goldfish for a rival, retaliation from the goldfish will kill the Betta actual. maximum commercial Bettas with long tails and such are vulnerable fish and may be overwhelmed to the pulp SO actual by utilising different tank friends.

My opinion is to never, ever put a betta or a goldfish in a bowl. Most bowls aren't large enough to by filtered or heated, which is very good for your betta. I wouldn't mix coldwater and tropical fish anyways, and like everyone else had said it's not a good idea to put a goldfish and a betta together, though who will provoke a fight all depends on size and personality. Any type of goldfish needs at least TWENTY gallons to live in, and I think bettas will do best in tanks 2 gallons or larger.

A BETTA WILL NOT KILL ANY FISH ITS WITH! they only fight other bettas! ive had betta's with many community fish species. goldfish and betta's cannot go togethor becasue of the temp differences, and the fact that goldfish produce such strong wastes, that a betta will most likely get ammonia poisoning, and the goldfish usually get much larger than a betta, and im sure the betta will end up dead far before the goldfish, depending on the species, fancy tailed goldfish will most likely get their fins nipped.

I wouldn't put a gold fish w/ your betta, he'll either hurt him and end up killing him. But then again it all depends on the size of the tank. If the tank is big enough the betta might not even try to hurt the gold fish.

Baby-juvenile fancy goldfish need 10 gallons PER fish. (ryukins, fantails, moors, orandas ect)
Baby-juvenile long bodied goldfish need 20 gallons PER fish. (comets, commons, shubunkins, feeder goldfish)
Adults need 50 gallons PER fish. They need ALOT of filtration because they are extremely dirty fish and they need regular partial waterchanges where you vacume the gravel thoroughly with a siphon making sure not to go past 50 percent and making sure the new water is dechlorinated and same temp as the water thats in the tank. Goldfish are coldwater fish and have different dietary needs then bettas.

Bettas are sensitive to ammonia and need super clean water. They are also territorial in anything LESS then 5 gallons. They also need a heated tank because they are warmwater tropicals.

I agree with everything that Therese B said except for the long fin thing. I have kept male Betta's with Angel Fish and Guppy's before and they never bothered each other. But yes, it is safe to keep Betta's with other types of fish as long as the male is not overly aggressive and the other fish isn't big enough to eat them.LOL

I would not do it Betta is a tropical fish and needs warm water....a goldfish is happy in cold or room temperature water. That keeps them both healthy

Bettas may be kept in a community tank as long as the water conditions are met, and if no aggressive or fin-nipping fish are present. However, only one male may be kept in each aquarium, unless they are separated by a barrier.
