Does he like open ended sorts of games where you can create characters and wander around going on quests, fighting monsters and demons, etc?

If yes or maybe, I would suggest Elder Scrolls: Morrowind which is only $20 (because it's platinum) but would provide hundreds of hours of gaming. My little brother played that game for weeks at a time when we first got it. (my bro's also a big fan of the Halo games)

Maybe research it and see if it's something you think he would be into and is appropriate for his taste and maturity level.

I would also suggest getting him cards if he is into any card games like Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.

- Also would like to second the reccomendation for Nintendo DS if you are able to spend ~$130 on him. It is an amazing system, tons of fun, and you can get games for cheap - the most expensive ones are only around $35.

Subject: Finally a video gaming resource for parents

Millions of people play video games every day to relax, entertain, and challenge their brains. Lately, media’s focus on violent games has made some believe that all video games are bad. In fact, the world of video games is as diverse as the world we live in and contains something for every taste.

Just in time for the holidays, a unique resource book, The Book of Games, is launching on November 1st offering a complete compendium of today’s most important games. Now for the first time there is a resource for parents to review and understand the different electronic games, how they work, why they are popular and a description of the various genres. The Book of Games is also a great gift for their gamer kids providing a beautiful full color book with vivid representation of each game’s remarkable world.

The Book of Games is the ultimate reference on video games and video game technology.

·For parents, they can gain an understanding of the main genres—action, adventure, entertainment, racing, role-playing, simulation, sports, and strategy. They can get a feel for the games and decide if they are appropriate for their children.
Your gamer kids learn about future trends, and where these games are going. If they are fans of a particular genre they will be introduced to other games in the same genre that they might not be aware of. It also delivers:
oGameplay characteristics of each game and how it compares to others
oHow to choose between a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, and DS
oWhat Massively Multiplayer Online Games are really about
oThe thrilling future of games

(Electronic review copy for download; authors accessible for briefings; beautiful full color graphics of book available for republishing)

We think your audience will appreciate knowing about this valuable new resource to sort through the massive online and video gaming products. We would be happy to send you the link to download the Review PDF of The Book of Games. Book of Games Volume 1 will be priced at US$29.95.

Get him a portable game system like Nintendo DS. You can do what I do and leave a sales paper full of toys lying around and when he sees it sit next to him and ask if there's anything in there that he wishes he could have.
