I mean we seem so lonely though our world is more crowded today. We fear of strangers in the streets and we usually just get in a car in the morning and get off it in the evening... We sometimes make friends on the Internet just because they are behind the screen and never visit us unless we want to. That's what we call a comfortable situation. Don't you think it's strange?

I was raised partially by my grandparents & we lived a lot differently just twenty years ago than now. We didn't even have to lock our doors. Things really have changed & not for the better. It's a much more dangerous world & with less community spirit & friendly help such as neighbors who really care.

Today is a prime example of one of the reasons. Just look at the behaviour of some of the people on this site alone. They are not the types of people I would trust, nor would I care to meet them. The only reason that we're even half-way comfortable with them around is because they don't live next door.

I don't think it is as strange as it is sad.

Probably right to some extent but do you know that society was just as violent 100 y.ago as it is today. Remember Jack the Ripper and those Victorian times when poverty was rife and so were Muggings Murder and Prostitution. You would not have wanted to live in those times .. Remember There was no television till the 1950's 1960's and crime was not reported like it is today , so people were not aware of it as much. Now you look at Sky news and all the horrors of the world are brought right into your living room. Thats why I limit my viewing time on these Channells because I get sick of looking at war and murder and starving babies. You know if you keep looking at this stuff it can only make you afraid of the world. And the world has many many more good people in it than bad, so try and fight the evil thats trying to scare you and dont watch this crap . Cheer yourself up by watching comedies and being around nice people and talking to nice people even if it is on the web like now because in my experience the people that use this Q & A are good people and are a laugh at times. Thats why I like using it.. Sorry for rambeling on & on ..

I don't know about the lonely part but the suspicious part yes. I mean I've met some really neat people at work and we hang out and stuff. I'd trust them. We're just all very suspicious of people around us. Why is that guy looking at me so strangely? You know stuff like that.

Yes, I see what you mean. I just think that trust is harder to come by these days. It seemed that the world was more "innocent" (which it probably wasn't) and warmer (which it probably wasn't) than today. Also, I think that as we grow more intelligent and advanced (hard to believe with some of the dumb questions on the boards today), we're more aware of other peoples' opinions and intentions. It's scary.
No longer are we brothers or sisters... we're just enemies, it seems sometimes.

Probably because I think there is a lot more hatred in the world then hundreds of years ago.

Well, it's the deterioration of society as a whole. This will keep happening until the end of the world finally comes.

People had more privacy and were more 'secluded' a hundred years ago. Today it's hard to get away from dangerous people...
