Whenever the abortion debate comes up, people always go back to the same old question, "When does life begin?"

This is not a scientific question. This is a question that was invented by the pro-abortion activists to divert attention away from the fact that abortion is still murder.

I'm an athiest. I'm only looking at this scientifically...

The human sperm cells are alive. They are sex cells that contain half of the genetic code needed to make up our 46 chromosones.

Ova cells are likewise alive. They contain the other half of the genetic code.

When a sperm cell enters an ova a new cell is made. This cell is too alive and it is called a zygote. The zygote has all 46 chromosones in tact (half coming from the father, half from the mother). You now have a human being. 46 chromosones = human.

When did life begin? WHEN DID IT EVER END? The father is alive, the mother is alive, the sperm are alive, the ova is alive, the zygote is alive...EVERTHING IS ALIVE!!!

Life is continuous. As soon as you have something with 46 chromosones and deliberatly end its life... you have ended the life of a human being.

As far as I am concerned, that's murder.

Life begins when the sperm fertilizes the egg - whether it happens the old-fashioned way or in a lab somewhere.

The question is when does the fetus attain the status of being able to live on its own? I am not saying that late term abortion is a good thing. Preventing the pregnancy is a better idea.(either by keeping the sperm and egg apart or by keeping the zygote from implanting) The zygote lives as a parasite within the mother until it is ready to live on its own. Some people say quickening, or feeling the baby move is the sign of life. I am not proabortion but I think that the term partial birth abortion is a terrible term that is not truthful, and I think there should be some choice about ones body, but not abortion for no reason.

I agree that abortion is murder, although I understand secretsauce's response that whether or not it is "living" is not the foundation of a pro choice argument. Coming from a former prochoicer, I get that defense. It is basically, well ok so its alive but it's not fully developed therefor it does not have the same rights as a fully grown person (the "mother"). Feminists need to wake up and realize that abortion is not pro-woman. Having your tiny baby ripped away from your womb and sucked into a sink is anything but feminine and healthy. On the contrary it is a despicable and horrible thing to do, and has lasting negative drastic consequences such as lifelong remorse, and the more obvious one, the death of a child.

If you would like to look at things exactly scientifically, I suggest you examine the medical definition of Homo Sapien Sapien (Human Being)

I'm not positive what it says, but I know it isn't "46 Chromosomes"
Only the taking of the life of a Homo Sapien Sapien is murder. Everything else is perfectly sanctioned by the United States Government. (Unless we intend to make the zygote a protected species)
This isn't a moral statement, simply a rebuttal of shoddy science.

Now I get to rant:

And if you mean to mean to intend that sperm and ova can also be defined as life, then every man who has ever masturbated (or even had sex if you account for the millions of sperm which do not find their way to the egg) and every woman who has ever had their period is aiding and abetting murder.

In fact, why does life have to start at conception? Why shouldn't life begin at the possibility of conception? Every woman who isn't pregnant and every man who isn't having sex is denying the life to the possibility of a zygote. Lock 'em up!

Actually... that doesn't sound all that bad.

And DonSoze doesn't know basic biology. The original poster is correct. According to the Cell Doctrine, something cannot be not alive, and then alive at a later time. If something is alive, then everything leading up to it is alive. That's Bio 101.

The question is NOT about "when does life begin." Neither side believes that.

The question is when does a *human* life begin. That's when questions about basic human rights kicks in.

We would all agree that a tumor is living tissue, and that every cell contains complete human genetic code. But nobody argues that a tumor is "a human life" and therefore imbued with rights and therefore worth saving.

A human zygote is not a tumor ... but neither is it a fully functioning human being. It is something in between.

That is the line that pro-life and pro-choice advocates are arguing about. (And please have the respect to refer to both sides by the name they choose for themselves. When you call them "pro-abortion" then you reveal your bias, and your opinion is no longer just "looking at this scientifically.")

It is too complex an issue to simply declare it "just plain dumb."

A fetus' heart beat first starts beating at 5 weeks. And we sanction the abortion of anything up to 3 months. I think we should all think about this for a minute

i think like homeschooling can rather supply you the better of the two worlds. i think of there are some homeschooled little ones who experience like it relatively is mandatory to nevertheless "slot in" and characteristic a so-called "widespread" teen existence, and in the event that they like to, they are able to nevertheless do this (as i'm specific you comprehend). Then there are different little ones who do no longer care plenty approximately being carbon copies of all human beings else, and homeschooling enables them to pass of their very own guidelines. i don't comprehend what would desire to be greater proper than having that variety of selection!

Thank God your parents did not chose to abort you because, as you may realize later (with experience and wisdom), life as we know it begins the moment that sperm hits the egg...and of course, the rest is history.

OBTW, I am senior scientist so do not think that only contry-bumpkins are people of faith.

Good luck in your search for this answer.
