My daughter is 8 months. She has 2 teeth and eats stage 3 foods. She usually has turkey rice dinner or something but I read somewhere it's healthier to give her straight vegetables as opposed to that. Have you noticed the oily residue left on the bowl when feeding like chicken or turkey? It makes me wonder how healthy that is. I give her Cheerios, Fruit and Veggie Puffs and Wagon Wheels for snacks. I only give her 8oz of juice(4 oz water 4 oz juice). I stopped giving her fruit (because my mother kept her for awhile and would only feed her fruit and table food because she thought it was gross and she refused to eat jarred food which really pissed me off) except for once a day. I just want her to be used to veggies and I don't want her to prefer junk. I do let her try certain table foods just to get a little flavor. I don't want an obese child. I don't like a lot of sweets. I think if I can get her to eat them I should feed them to her. She eats ALL veggies. Any suggestions?

What I mean by table food is food I eat. I am open to mashing food for her with no seasoning or a little seasoning. If anybody has any recipes let me know. sorry she doesn't like mac n cheese. She also is trying to feed herself anything youve cut up and given to your baby. She has 2 teeth.

The doctor told me that she needed those mixed meals for the protein. As her formula intake lowers (she should still get at least 16-20 ounces a day) she will need protein from other sources. My daughter didn't get any teeth until after 13 months and I was worried about her choking on the chunks. Honestly,I have never really noticed a film or anything weird. Are you buying Gerber or generaic? Maybe it's the store (older food) or the brand. But if you really think it's not good for her than maybe talk to your doctor about protein substitutes for her. Also, my doctor said as soon as my daughter got a couple teeth to start with normal food smashed as long as it was healthy and not high in sodium. So I would think if your eating healthy, there wouldn't be a reason she couldn't eat regular food. Plus, my doctor suggested shredded cheese, wheat bread or crackers, finely diced or shredded cooked meats (turkey, chicken or lean beef) and eggs. Just a few thoughts though!

P.S. My daughter is 14 months now and she finally has two teeth! Her world is so much brighter with foods now lol

My 9 month old skipped stage 3 foods altogether, he didn't like the combo of chunks with the puree. He prefers table food and self feeding. We supplement with formula (24 ozs a day) and give water or juice with feedings. For breakfast he likes waffles, pancakes, cereal, fruit, etc... Lunch, noodles, pieces of ham, chicken, a gerber veggie and a fruit. Dinner, pretty much whatever we're eating in small pieces. Our doctor is fine with this and even recommened this because he is big (26 lbs, 34 inches).

I wouldn't do table food at all until she's at least one year old. Try fruit for breakfast with baby cereal (it has good iron and fiber), and then a veggie and fruit for lunch, and perhaps a meat/veggie combo for supper. You could cut back on the juice and just stick with formula or breast milk if you're breastfeeding. It may take a day or two, but you'll get her back on the routine that you want. Remember, even if she doesn't seem to eat a lot the first day, you know she won't starve herself. You just have to be consistant.

Good luck and healthy eating!

There is no reason why you can't feed her table food. I always made my own baby food. Take out portions before you use salt etc and puree. Then you know what you are feeding your baby. I would buy frozen, no salt added, veggies, boil them and puree in the blender. Put them in small containers (2-2.5 oz) and freeze. ( I also did this with melon) It is much cheaper and you know exactly what she is eating. We just gave our kids pretty much whatever it was we were eating. None of them are obese or have food allergies etc. How do you think kids ate before Gerber? Relax and enjoy your baby, dont stress over fruit and table food. :)

I made all my baby's food, so I don't know about the oily residue. This website: www.wholesomebabyfood.com has really good baby recipes.

But it does sound like you are doing the right thing; my son just recently started on table foods at about 9 months old, and he really likes it, but I still make sure everything is very healthy and he has no junk.

Why not feed her table food. As long as it is soft, or ground up, she should be able to eat it. A healthy balanced diet daily is important. She should be getting fruits and vegetables everyday. Bananas are always good, homemade applesauce, peaches etc...... Any vegetables that you eat, she can eat. Green beans, peas, carrots, etc...as long as you grind it up so she doesn't choke. I never fed my children jarred food once they got teeth. I would use the blender to puree whatever we were eating for dinner. It was a way to save money, and I felt it was healthier for them. You could even prepare large amounts for her and save them in the refrigerator.

Actually it sounds like you're pretty good with the food (I didn't see breastmilk or forumla in there though.. she should still be taking that).

As for the oily residue on meats... try using beechnut brand, chicken/rice is just that.. chicken and rice.. gerber is carrots, rice, tomatos, chicken and all kinds of stuff.

You can also just mash up what you are having for dinner. My 8mo old has all but stopped eating jarred foods- he only wants mushed up meals.

She needs it all- fruits, vegetables & meats (stage 3)

She can also have rice cereal. Keep giving her milk and a little juice.
