25x² - 20x = 1
25x² - 20x - 1 = 0
25x² - 20x - 1 + 5 = 0 + 5
25x² - 20x + 4 = 5
(5x - 2)² = 5
5x - 2 = +/- √5
5x = 2 +/- √5
x = (2 +/- √5) / 5
x = (2 + √5) / 5 and (2 - √5) / 5

If you wanted it in that form, you would have:

25x^2 -20x -2 = -1

and you are right, they do not factor evenly.

To complete the square you would need to have:

25x^2 -20x + 4 = 5 (I added 4 to each side)

which factors to:

(5x -2)(5x - 2) = 5
(5x - 2)^2 = 5
