try the post office. While you're there, if it weighs too much, you can ship some to where you are going and get your bag down to the appropriate weight.

use houeshold scales or

Fill a bucket with a given number of 1 litres jugs worth of water. Use a broom shank across the back of a chair to for a balance, rest on the mid point of the broom.

Or for the advanced, use a bucket / bag at differing points and mutliply up for the leverage.
ie. water 50cm from mid point, bag at 25cm. If it balances, bag will be twice the quantity of litres, in KG.

or put everything you think you need on the bed, take away half and replace with a washing tablet

Go play!!

Find a kid that weights about 50 lbs and compare. Also, take an empty duffle bag with you, or leave enough room in a carry on duffle bag, just in case you have to take some of the weight off your bag, you can always stick it in the carry on duffle bag. Don't ask me what is the difference between being over 5 lbs on your check in bag if they let you put the stuff in the carry on bag. You are still adding the same weight to the plane. My husband just recently traveled and he was over 2 lbs and they let him take out a suit out of his suitcase and put it in his carry on. Crazy... but that is my answer. Pick me!!!

Use a regular house scale or sneak your packed bag into the supermarket and use their produce scale. LOL! Honestly, if you are talking about a carry on, if you can lug it, that is all you need.

Do you know the weight of anything in your home? if so, try and guess by holding both of them up. or look on the internet to see how much a gallon jug of water / milk weighs and compare that. Otherwise you'll ahve to wait til you get to the airport!
