How does one afford an incredibly overpriced game system for $600-1000, if you don't have a job, camping out for several days for a new PS3?

Take a vacation day or two off...and you've lost several hundred dollars right there...

Is this the "new math", like roughly 50% of Americans believe a lottery ticket is a better gamble with money versus a 401(K), etc?

It's no wonder countries like Japan, Germany, France, and China look at us, since we are morally, ethically, and culturally bankrupt.

Yes I had and still have a life. I also have a PS3 hahaha And I'm smart enough to be self employed so I can take time off whenever I feel like it hahaha My kids love it and I got a spare to sell. $1800 not a bad profit for 38 hours of sitting around.

Why dont YOU GET A job and THEN worry about getting a game system...do you do ANYTHING when youre NOT complaining about other peoples lives?
And if you had a DECENT job, youd be aware that VACATION DAYS are PAID DAYS off. So who is losing money?
Youre speaking of 'new math' yet apparently know nothing about actually, well, anything apparently.

By the way, if you had a grain of intellect youd realize that a dollar lotto ticket and placing a dollar in a 401k are equally dumb. However a dollar lotto ticket has AT LEAST a higher 'potential payoff' compared to a dollar invested in 401k. You didnt do well in school I take it.
Other countries look at us? Is there a point youre trying to make with that statement? Cause its gone past me and probably everyone else.
You sure complain alot. Sounds like your life is misdirected and lacks aspiration. Maybe if your IQ was high enough to have a decent job youd know better than to show how dumb you are in a public forum.

Some people have the compulsion to have one right away, either because it is a status symbol to be the first or because they are impatient and can't stand the thought of not having one first.

Then you have people who spoil their kids with the most expensive presents and think it absolves them of being labeled "greedy" just because it's a gift. You know, rather than using common sense and waiting until the price goes down and any glitches are corrected. I'm sure little Johnny could wait a few months rather than have mommy stand in the cold for 48 hours, sleeping on the concrete, just to get him a cool new video system. If only people put that sort of dedication into stuff that actually mattered.

Of course, who could forget the people who want to buy it and sell it. These are people who steal the chance away from a gamer to have it at the $600 asking price by putting it up on eBay for 6x's what it's worth. They'll get it, too, which is good for them but bad for all the people who can't control themselves and hold out for a couple more months.

But, even if they can't be patient and wait for it to be easier and cheaper, I don't think they have less of a life. I'm sure not everyone who stood in line to buy one did it with stupid or sinister intentions - Maybe they were off for holiday break and had nothing better to do. Maybe they are a hardcore gamer and for them this is like "Harry Potter" or whatever. (though i'm an HP fan and have never taken off work for those books) But some people undoubtedly do it based on greed, impatience, twisted priorities, and maybe loose morals.

I'm not saying that all waiting in line for it is bad, obviously, but it made me sick to read about the shootings and everything involved with the ps3 all so people could make a quick buck or have a new shiny before their friends. Is it really worth it? It kind of reminds me of when I lived in the city - How you had to lock all your windows and keep the lights on at night around Christmas because people would break into your house and steal your presents to sell or give to their own kids, ruining your holiday to better their own. Though being shot over a ps3 is much worse.

When you get right down to it, I don't actually care how people spend their money. People who have it will always find a way to waste it so for me i'm more disgusted by the $2000 ebay price tags and the fights caused over the stupid thing. I'll be waiting to buy mine - Why waste money and time on a system that is currently overpriced (even at the $600 retail) and is going to be full of bugs the first couple rounds.

Yes, we have a job, and yes, we have a life. The people that stand in line and wait for the PS3 and Wii are not crazy for doing so. People will stand in line for just about anything.

And taking a vacation day or two (paid, mind you) is not a bad thing when you are waiting to get a game system for your CHILD! Or even for yourself. If you had a kid that wanted a PS3, would you make that child skip school to get it? I wouldn't, but I would take a vacation day to get it for them while they got an education.

And tell me this - is it more of a waste to spend $600 on a PS3 once or spend $20,000 on a car every 5 years? Hmmm . . . let me think about that. I you live to the age of 85 and buy a new car every 5 years, think of how much of your income you will be losing.

But you'll still have your PS3 for that $600 you spent . . .

quite a few motives: a million. some people purely won't be able to attend. With the issue that Sony is having, it will be a lengthy time period formerly the PS3 turns into drastically accessible. 2. some everybody is going to promote it on E-Bay purely to make some speedy bucks, or for that reason, some hundred speedy bucks. 3. some people do it for the camaraderie.

It does seem bizarre behaviour.

In any case, it is unwise to purchase a brand new product immediately, as there are bound to be teething problems, and the same product will be a lot less expensive a few months down the line.

As for lottery tickets, many people want an easy way to get rich. Unfortunately, there is no substitute for hard work.

I honestly believe that society is becoming dumbed-down, and bone idle.

Dude, the answer is that these people are losers that don't have jobs and college kids that smoke weed all the time instead of going to class. So they take a few days off, sit around smoking weed in line, and then they buy a Playstation and make thousands of dollars of profit by selling it on ebay to people with not enough time to stand in line, just so they can buy more weed and stand in more lines. Do they have lives? Hell yeah, that sounds AWESOME

They could be stay at home moms, stay at home dads, people with flexible work schedules, or people that have days off in the middle of the week. Who are we to judge what they do. If they want an overpriced game system then let them. If they are losing money by doing let them. No skin off your back so why are you worried about it. Find something worthwhile to worry about like why we can't seem to keep criminals off the streets or why our kid's schools have such poor test scores. Sheesh....

I think this is all the companies fault...wether be sony for the ps3 or nintendo for the wii...its crazay...

people have actually gotten killed in texas while standing in line, campinf out for the purchase of these items..

but there are parent who will pay anything to have your child eyes light up on christmas day. No..I do nit or have never stood outside and camp out for it...

I am however one of those crazy people who buy them at ridiculously over priced prices....

I paid $2500. for my ps3 and $550.00 for nintendo wii.

I love my children, what can I say

Yes, some of them are pretty smart. They are selling them on eBay for like 1200 dollars. If I had the time, I would do the same.
