In the US please. Also consider public transportation and the cost of the purchase of a single family house... not a mobil home. We are also very interested in safety with levels of crime being low. Not too humid, not too hot or too terribly cold. We'd like to have cultural facilities and events nearby too.

Southern California is a great place for retirement. There are many safe areas in Southern CA and the climate is vey good. One problem that many people are facing here is high prices for real estate. If you are a senior citizen, you may want to consider buying a condo. It requires less maintenance and is much more affordable than a single family home. Many senior citizens prefer to live in Palm Springs, CA. It's a nice area and can get very hot in summer. Good luck to you.

I hear TN is hot now, and one of the remaning affordable areas.
Believe me, you cannot afford to live in Florida right now. The real estate market is in a serious crisis as property insurance and taxes force many into foreclosure.
No more easy living in the Sunshine State.
