If the check is valid no he can't take the funds away. A certified check is guarenteed by the bank, you're drawing bank funds. It's like the bank wrote you a check, and that guy paid the bank. The biggest scam is that the check is fake. The biggest scam is fake checks from local banks. They will send you a "certified check" for more than the asking amount, and blame it on a bank error. They will ask you to send back the extra amount, and since there is no local branch of the bank that the check is said to be from it will bounce out of your account after you have given him the extra money. So to protect yourself only accept cashiers checks from a bank you can physically go to to cash it, or deposit it with a hold to make sure it clear your account. Never accept a check from a greater amount with an agreement to pay the difference.

My company was scammed for $40,000 with a
FAKE cashiers check. We shipped product Fedex COD and they gave the driver a fake check. I will admit it looked real, but the bank called about two hours after depositing it and said no such bank.

No he cannot, but donnot cash it at your bank, go to a currency exchange, oand DON'T mail your item to him until you have the CASH in your hands. I have recieved fake checks before. In general i would tell you to stay away from someone doing business this way..

if it is a forged cashier's check, and your bank honors it, they will come after you for the $ when it is found to be fake.
Better make sure the bank it is drawn on is real, and call them to make sure the check is OK!

you mean you sold him "virtual" items that don't exist? shame on you, you have stolen money from him. he can report it as a fraud to his bank, and they can report you to the fbi and they can come take the money back away from you. I had my bank take an internet check back after the guy I gave my account # charged me ten times the amount I authorized.

No, but do not cash it at your bank...the receipt will have info where you bank, and might give the person a lever to pry open your personal monies.....beware....
