hi

i'm from Europe and would love to come to the States and stay there. I'm a student of English but I intend to get my master's degree in translation. I checked the Department of State's website and it says you can apply for a job only if you're an American citizen. How long does it take to get a citizenship and how long do you have to have that citizenship (how many years prior) before you can get a job like this (working for the US government or something)

thanx

Go to the nearest American Embassy and inquire of this.
You have to submit a application for a request to become
a citizen of the United States of America and I believe it takes 5 years to become a naturalized citizen of the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In answer to your question:
You must have lived in the country for five years, or three if you are married to a citizen.
Must be of good moral character.
Must be of sound mind.
Must speak and understand English.
Must pass an easy test about United States government and history.

You may be okay but at least a few of us raise a collective eyebrow when a 'foreigner' has his eye on a US government job - especially a job so tailor-made for espionage, geopolitical misinformation and such.
Outside of that and if you are on the up-and-up...good luck.

You may be able to get one via NATO/OTAN or the UN. Otherwise... Hmmm... Good question.

And for naturalization, it takes 5 to 7 years, and no fellonies.

Please stay in Europe.

We do not need another American-hating European coming over here and telling us how superior he is.
