For street directory maps, I have also found MultiMap to be very useful for various European cities.

(Google Maps usually starts in the USA and MultiMap in the UK but you can search or click through to the country and city you are after)
If you are willing to download a program, I would suggest Google Earth, as suggested above.

for driving instructions I would try www.viamichelin.com
for good maps I really like http://www.hot-maps.de/
but be careful when printing from hot maps, it prints with capital letters on the top of the map "HOT MAPS" and you really look like a pervert walking in the middle of a city of some "inappropriate" map in the hand searching some "fun". Nevertheless the maps are great!
