Are you asking about MP3 players compared to Ipods or MP3 file format compared to Itunes format? If you are asking about MP3 players to Ipod players, I would say Ipod players. I have had several mp3 players and they all either locked up or quit working constantly. My ipod has worked flawlessly since i got it and has been quite reliable. My ipod plays my mp3 files just fine and it has alot of other features and addons that i really like. There are tons of accessories for Ipods too that make it a total package for many uses. My Ipod is the Nano and I like it very much.
Hope this helps.... george

An MP3 player. If something goes wrong with it, you can do the maintenance yourself. With an IPod, you have to send it in to Apple. This is especially true with replacing the battery pack. You'd have to send an IPod in, but you can change it yourself with an MP3 player.

On balance, I'd have to say iPod. They are a design classic, with simple elegant lines, and easy user interface.

The only fly in the ointment is that when the rechargable battery is at the end of it's useful life, you have to send the iPod back to Apple, and are not guaranteed to get the same machine sent back (so I've heard).

Also, I understand that you can't transfer music from iPod back to computer (if I'm wrong about this, please correct me), so making regular backups of all your music files is essential.
