Transversals are lines that interesect a pair of parrallel lines. The intersection makes congruent angles that are called alternate interiors (angles on opposite sides of the transversal and inside the two parrallel lines). The intersection also makes angles that add up to 180 which are called same side interiors (angles on the same side of the transversal and inside the two parrallel lines).
