Depends on how much you’re at home. If you’re never at home or are always traveling then I say having both is a waste of money. I only have a cell phone but I am Nomadic by nature.

I suggest shopping around and find a phone company with plans that best suite your lifestyle.

I cancelled my home about two years ago and have not missed it. I was hardly using it anyway since I had my cell phone. And with all the additional minutes (rollover, unlimited nights and weekends) I have yet to run out of minutes.

And I remember the last straw with my home phone was when I called my mom long distance, thinking it wasn't going to be more then 10 cents a minute...and later found out I was calling during an off time and was charged 30 cents a minute (I was also constantly finding hidden charges on my phone bill). I could have used my cell phone had I known that was going to happen. So it was cancelled shortly after.

This is a lifestyle question and/or a finacial one. Do you need the security of a landline phone or is your life too mobile to warrant it? Lots of older people and families find they need a home phone becuse a dropped call or lack of service is possibly a life or death issue. How much is the landline used? Would it cost more to add or subtract the house phone? Would you need to adjust your cell phone plan? My wife and I went just mobile for 2 years and when our son was born we found it was much more cost effective for us to add the landline back. So now we have both.

Maybe. Here are a few considerations to take into account:

911 - if you dial 911 from a landline, your address can be pinpointed pretty quickly. dunno what's the current situation with cell phone lines and enhanced 911 (one of the annoying fees you're paying on your typical postpaid plan).

backup in case of power failure - phone landlines run on their own power so in case of a power outage, they can usually still function. probably not a big deal.

multiple handsets in your house - probably not a problem if you live in an apartment, but if you have a cell phone, it will only ring on that one handset. minor inconvenience.
