Actually the parts are noit the same.

Dell and some of your other larger manafucturers have contract to the component companies like Intel, Maxtor and Seagate to provide parts with certian specifications. While you can use almost any part in the machine, you should be careful when purchasing parts that are not OEM (Original Equipment Manafacturer) as it will render you device unsupported by the company.

Now to answer your question Windows is just a crappy Operating System. Microsoft is great at Marketing hence the dependancy on Windows and Applications that are Windows compatible.

While I'm not saying it's not hardware the first thing I would suspect is the OS. And yes I am a die hard Microsoft user and have been since DOS 2.1

Dell components are higgldy piggldy, mixed and matched by the user and not asmuch research is put into thier design. For example a company like compaq or HP design the machine for mass production so they invest a lot of time in combining the best components. Dell computers don't have this as there are so many different part combinations.

Yes I agree that is it the Operatring System. I have owned 3 Dells and they all ran like champs, but remeber to keep a good antivurs running, and clean up your hard drive alot, preventative maintenance is a must with microsoft windows. Dell does use higher quality parts than lets say HP or Compaq, better memory, processor, video cards, audio cards, better mother board as well.
