The screen is black with lots of words, including: No debugger Configured - dumping debug information. We have restarted it and even taken the battery out but the screen still comes back when we turn it on.

A few things that can cause your problem:

(The messages are the comp telling you that it's self diagnostics are finding problems and won't allow the comp to start.)

1. Your hard drive has become corrupted

2. The Operating System has been corrupted

3. There is no operating System installed

4. It could be the PRAM battery is dead, but you are getting extreme responces from the comp. Usually a dead batt will only lose some info like the date and some other settings. I have heard that it could prevernt a startup, so I wouldn't rule that out.

5. It could be that your main battery is completely shot. That could cause all kinds of problems. A dead main battery is no big deal, but one that has shorted internally is. A laptop is not designed to have the battery on charge all of the time. (or run without the battery) It needs to periodically be run on battery only until the battery completely discharges. (there are some battery specific programs that will monitor and assist with battery care. I use CoconutBattery in my g4 1.5 PB.)

1st: Try putting the restore disc in the disc drive and restarting. (You may have to hold the C key down while starting to get it to go to the disc mounted OS)

2nd: Replace the PRAM battery.

3rd: Replace the main battery.

4th: Go to the Apple Store.

Somebody had the same problem, maybe. Sounded like they ended up doing an Archive and Install.

Go to Apple Support discussions and do a search for "no debugger configured dumping debug information", without "", in Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger. You'll find the thread at #5
