Find a way to tell her. Maybe a copy of the return. She deserves to know!

As a divorced parent I can say first off I would never put my son in that situation and your father should be ashamed for doing so himself. While I fully agree with some of the answers before me saying your mother deserves the support I don't feel it should be your place to get it from him. Most states have laws in place to withhold tax refunds from people who do not pay their CS... Let your mom deal with it best as she can. You need to concentrate on enjoying the time you spend with your dad and not worrying about keeping secrets from one parent or the other.

Tax issues are confidential. If your mom wants to know how much he is getting, she should subpoena your dad's records. Of course, I am assuming that they are either divorced or separated. In any event, if I were you, I'll try not to mess with this issue. By the way, does your Mom tell your Dad or yourself how much she is getting back on taxes? If she doesn't, shouldn't you find out and tell your Dad? The best you can do is step out of this issue. It's in your best interest.

If the child support case is active with the Friend of the Court, they will automatically take his taxes to pay the support off, he will not be able to stop it. Before that, the money should be coming directly out of his paycheck. If it's not through the court, then there is nothing she can do if she is told how much he is getting back.

If he has never paid child support and is supposed to, tell your mother. The money he's getting back in taxes can be taken and used to pay back child support. Child support is money that the courts said he needs to pay for your support (and any brothers and sisters you may have).

The courts say that each parent has a financial burden for their children. Child support is the amount the non-custodial parent must pay to meet their financial burden.

Think of his tax refund as the money he rightfully owes you and see that your mother gets it back for you.

Tell dear old Dad to start paying his child support then. Parents should never put this crap on their kids. If you live with your mom, then she should have some financial help. Besides, if he files his taxes and is in arrears with his child support, then it should be nabbed anyway by the IRS. You won't have to breathe a word of it to anyone. Good luck.

Just stay out of it.

The big question in my mind is why do you know what he's getting back?

Anyway, you will be better served staying out of it and just forgetting what you know along these lines. You don't know the full story. For example, it's possible that your dad will use the money to cover a shortfall he's had all year to pay down credit cards.

Oh...tell her! Children are not disposable! Your mother supported you all on her own, now he needs to be a real man and pay up!

Tell her and ask her to make it sound like she got a notice in the mail informing her about the return due to the fact that he owes back child support.

I don't think your Dad should be telling you this stuff, but if it were me and I knew how much Mom struggled, I'd tell. Why should he be allowed to hide from his responsibilities? I would be disgusted with him for ducking out on what he owes.

Sadly is it really none of your business. I don't see why he is telling you anything at all. If anything maybe you can tell your dad you don't want to know things like this because it puts you in a awkward position with knowing he is still owing back support.
