I read somewhere that the reason we say 'Bless you' or God Bless You' is because when you sneeze, your heart stops for just a second. We just say 'Bless you' at our house (made up of 1 Pagan, 1 Atheist and 2 undecided) and that works fine.

What about when people cough, and it sounds like a sneeze? I reckon we should say 'Cough Bless You'.

Yes, I do if they are around me - Yes I mean it - you have just survived a miracle of nature - the reason the a person (mostly
christian ) say it is because your heart actually stops for a split second during the sneezing process. You are actually dead for this split second - however, we revive and go our way - that is why we say God bless you ! - for he has blessed you with life again - this is true and goes way back in history -
Aaaa-Chewwwwww - excuse me I had to sneeze -
Thank You !

I just say "bless you". I can't honestly say I mean it though. It's a natural reflex for me when anyone sneezes and I hear it because I've been saying it so long.

I say "God Bless You". I do mean it. The reason is that for a moment, our hearts stop when we sneeze. I say "God Bless You" because they have been blessed that their heart resumed beating.

I saw "Salud!" which means "Health". If they sneeze again, it's "Dinero!" which means "Money" and if they sneeze a 3rd time, I say "Amor" which is "Love". If they sneeze a 4th time, start over with "Salud!".
