In rural areas, people dunno English so they only speak Arabic. But in urban areas like Cairo all people there speak Arabic , but they use some English words .Some Egyptians speak English with each other ,so they won't forget what they have been taught ( friends with each other, family members ,but not to salespeople or to waiters ).Others speak English with their children as it's very important to learn English these days .Most of the websites are in English, college studies are in English. When they go abroad ,they won't have a problem speaking with people as English is the most famous language these days. But English is not the main language in Cairo,it's still Arabic.

Nope, Arabic is still the main language in Egypt. Maybe what you heard has to do with the fact that Egyptians who live in major cities like Cairo and Alexandria have a good grasp of English. This is due to the spread of cable TV and the popularity of American pop culture. Many people, especially those who go to language schools and universities or work in multinational companies, speak English a lot, too.

actually English. in the meanwhile a minimum of. the actuality of the problem is that each and every of the analyze and innovation is completed in English, or a minimum of translated to English consistently. If we would desire to stay to tell the tale desirable of the sport, we won't have sufficient money to basically wait till that's translated (poorly) into Arabic, then edited, then approved, and so on. ella ma l. a. nehaya! The nurses might desire to do a brilliant sort of analyze and be contained in the recognize on what the international scientific sector is as much as. they might desire to nicely known the Arabic equivalent as nicely, yet English seems greater significant at this point. additionally, there are a number of non-Arab docs working in hospitals and getting foreign places journey does not be undesirable thought, the two requiring an equivalent quantity of recognize-how and communique contained in the English language. yet they do might desire to nicely known the corresponding Arabic words as nicely, so as that optimistically sooner or later, while they're themselves pioneers, researchers and innovators of the sector, it occurs of their mom tongue, Arabic. regrettably nonetheless, that's no longer going on any time quickly, with nurses performing and being taken care of like maids, stewardesses and/or secretaries :(

Kate Gilmore is right.. english is NOT the main language in cairo nor alexandria.. we still speak arabic.. there are hoever some words that we say in english.. but they're few.. such as "hi", "bye", "still", "sure", "sorry", "point" (as in, "thats not my point, my point is ...... but the word point is the only one said in eglish)
and many other words..
Kate Gilmore is also correct abt using the language with kids so they'll grow up knowing it well, and, again, she's right that u dont speak english with workers, drivers, waiters, etc.
a MINORITY speaks english as the main language.. but they are a MINORITY, not even worth mentioning, and then, they're usually being criticised by ppl.. they r way too few to consider this a phenomenon

No way
Some like to use English but it will never replace Arabic
They just do have the image of the European people that they do respect their science and some manners
But they will clearly understand what they have “I mean Arabic & Islam”
But they always see that bad image for Arab people in media that is way deep inside them they want to be some one else...
The can't respect or truly love what they are, they are loosing their identity...
But things will be better
In contrary I know a lot of people that refuses using English although all their lives they used it, some of them understood that they are loosing themselves when they do so “using English while they are Arab"
May ALLAH show them the way and protect them

no, that's wrong information you got there.
Still, there are two kind of people who use spoken English frequently;
Some small portion of the kids in the upper class are educated in superior English teaching schools (schools with foreign teachers who don't speak a word of Arabic) and make the students speak in English among them, plus there may be foreign students in the school, so speaking English is sometimes necessary in these schools. Those kids grow up, mingles with nearly the same society all the time, even when in college (AUC mostly), so they keep on their speaking in English most of the time for the same reasons.
The second group of people who uses English, are not speaking English actually, they more or less, uses lots of English vocabularies and shovel it in the middle of Arabic speech.
and those also vary, ranging from those who sometimes forget a word in Arabic (because of frequent encountering English words through work, study, or even living abroad) and those who deliberately use it to feel superior or whatever.
Although, i sometimes find words, or expressions pop up on my head faster than in arabic (that's probably because i watch too much movies or something - is it cultural invasion?), and i sometimes use them in casual conversations with certain people to ease communication, not to pretend or something.
I am totally against using English in our conversations, i feel it's kinda humiliating and disgraceful - but this is another story.
