I can't believe how many questions start with "Help me.....I don't know what to buy my boyfriend/girlfriend for Xmas! Well if you don't know now you will never know....USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed - I work in retail and get customers asking me what to buy for their loved ones. I just feel like saying " how the **** should i know"!
Sometimes think that people buy presents (expensive ones)to make themselves look good rather than think about what the recipient would want.

I completely agree with you. No one here knows anyone of your boyfriends, girlfriends, siblings, parents, etc. and only you can figure out what they want. Some people really do have no imagination and want everyone else to do the work for them.

I asked this question awhile back and everyone said it was because they honestly didn't know what people wanted (like anyone here would) and alot felt offended that someone would find harm in the questions being asked.

If someone doesn't know what their own friends' and family's hobbies and interests and likes/dislikes are, then they need to find out on their own because no one can do it for them. Almost makes me wonder how much interaction someone actually has with their family/friends if they don't know that basic information about them.

There are a couple of reasons, I think. Sometimes you need to buy a present, but don't really know the person very well, so you don't know what they like or what they already have. Other times you know the person, but you put too much pressure on yourself to find the "perfect" gift and think all your ideas won't be good enough. Actually that fear is not so unrealistic. Some people are critical of the gifts they receive.

Mostly its because we all have way too much junk already and people don't really deny themselves of special purchases anymore so when Christmas roles around and you want to purchase something special there isn't a lot to choose from because the person probably already has it.

In asking the questions, we are looking for the spark from a creative response. Some people are in a gift rut and need a little nudge.

I found the answer - Beanie Pals! everyone should have one, thats my theory. Christmas is ridiculous anyway - I dont want people spending their hard earned money on me, all I really want is friendship (& maybe alcohol to get me through the season of retail fever!)

the problem is that they are not really paying attention to the person they are dating or married too! it is very easy to shop for someone, just open your eyes and look at them.
