I'd have to see baby's weights from birth to tell you if there was really a problem. Also, has baby always been weighed on the same digital scale in the same state of dress so we know the weights are accurate?

If she is nursing, nurse more frequently. At this age, every 2-3 hours around the clock. Do breast compressions to help him get more hindmilk.

She could also consult a Lactation Consultant or a La Leche League Leader for local help.

It is important that the doctor see the baby and make a recommendation on this. Was the baby a premie? If not, 8 pounds is NOT NORMAL for a 3 month old. The baby's body could be having difficulty absorbing the nutrients, which could be dangerous. She needs to have this checked out by a pediatrician and not take too much time with Yahoo Answers.

Are you breastfeeding? Sometimes though the baby eats frequently, it doesn't gain weight. At three months the baby should be a bit more. You may try suplimenting with formula. Formula often bulks them up. Check with a doctor first. Good luck - I'm sure the baby will be fine. Everything is a phase and they change from day to day. But call the dr. about your concern.

Consult the Pediatrician. Depending on how much the baby weighed at birth it may not be an issue. Better safe that sorry

Ask your health visitor/doctor to check for any medical reasons as to why it seems hard for your baby to gain weight.
How old is he? How do you know there is a problem gaining weight? He isn't going to gain weight overnight. Give it time, and seek medical advice if you need to.

yuo really need to talk to the doc. if she is having problems gaining weight you will probably get the go ahead to give her/him a little bit of rice cereal everyday, but formula/breastmilk need to be the main source of nutrition at this point. PLEASE call the doc or your local health department :) they will help you, and this is an important matter.
