Depends what you want to do, how experienced and educated you are, and where you are looking for a job (country and region).

If you're looking for a job in retail, like the corner gas station, local grocery store, local department store, Walmart, McD's, etc., the best thing to do is to go an and ask for an employment application you can complete.

If you are in the U.S., each state has a state Employment Office where the purpose is to help residents find jobs. Pick your state out of this list to find out where the office closest to you is located - http://www.job-hunt.org/state_unemployment_offices.shtml

Check the "help wanted" classified ads in your local newspapers, including the weekly papers. Many newspapers post their classifieds on their Websites so you can search them online, but some papers just link to Monster or CareerBuilder which you can visit yourself.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of jobs posted online (but the posted/advertised jobs are only a small portion of the jobs that are truly open at any point in time). Good places to check are:

* Indeed.com - http://www.indeed.com
An "aggregator" that pulls jobs off job sites like CareerBuilder and Monster, as well as many smaller job sites and employer sites, too.

* Craig's List - http://www.craigslist.org
A giant collection of "local" (state or city and state or city) online classified ads. Go to the main site and pick your location from the list on the right side of the home page. See the Guide to Using Craig's List to Find a Job for great tips on using it - http://www.job-hunt.org/onlinejobsearchguide/article_guide_to_craigslist.shtml

* Job-Hunt.org - http://www.job-hunt.org
A giant collection of links to job and career information including nearly 6,000 links to local resources by state like the local newspapers' help wanted ads (about 5,000 of those links are employers like state and local governments, banks, hospitals, schools, colleges and universities, etc.).

Good luck!

It depends on how old you are. Workforce centers help alot. Or you can go ask a company for an application. Just say something like "hey, do you guys have an application form I can fill out?", and they'll give you one.
And not to put the CashCrate web site down or anything but...
It takes me forever to fill out those forms and I suggest if you don't like spam then don't do it, although I do think that if you do fill out all those tedious surveys that they do give you money. I'm not sure though. I only filled out one survey.

You can use the classified ads in newspapers or go to an employment agency. Usually, the employer pays the fee at the employment agency, not the one seeking employment. Good luck!!
