You may be right! San Francisco as a team has not been given a lot of credit, and they are 5-5. Nobody expected that!

I would have to agree with Gore, but there are a number of other players that seem to be underrated, usually on defense:
DB's Rashean Mathis and Walt Harris. Both have 6 INT's and Harris also has 3 FF's.
LB's: Baltimore starting LB's not named Ray Lewis (Adalius Thomas and Bart Scott). Thomas has 54 tackles, 8 sacks and 1 INT while Bart Scott, who has 4 more tackles then Lewis, has 69 tackles, 5 sacks and 1 INT. Another unhearalded LB is London Fletcher who is 2nd in the NFL with 94 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FR, and 2 INT's.
DL: Aaron Kampmann has 52 tackles (3rd for DL), 10 sacks, 3 FF and 1 FR. Jason Taylor, who is finally getting some pub, is having a fantastic season. He has 39 tackles, 9 sacks, 7 FF's, 1 FR, and 2 INT's returned for TD's. While Taylor is relatively a household name, he is having a Def POY type season.
WR: Andre Johnson leads the league by 14 receptions with 74 (only player averaging enough receptions to break 100), is 3rd in yards at 884 (notably Steve Smith, who missed 2 games, is 4th in yardage, 1st in YPG) and has 4 TD's .
RB: As you mentioned Frank Gore fits the bill of underrated, probably the most so on the offensive side, and is 3rd in YPG only behind Tiki and LJ (LDT is 4th). Willie Parker has been having a great season as well with 1064 all-purpose yards and 12 total TD's
QB: I don't know if you can have an underrated QB, but Drew Brees and Philip Rivers are probably the closest.

Warrick Dunn is the most ynderrated player in the NFL. All the guy does is produce and he gets no credit. All because he plays in the same city as Mr. Big Shot- Mike Vick. Dunn could easily rush for 1500 or 1600 yards each season if Vick didn't always complain about wanting to throw more and prove that he's a pocket passer. Also, he's a great guy.

That's a hard question, because the guys in the trenches make all the difference. Gore is a candidate for certain.
I'll say Orlando Pace. Look how STL has fallen apart on offense. They are not even the same team. Bulger looks lost, and Jackson is having his lunch eaten. Pace was the anchor of that line.

Marvin Harrison is one of the most underrated players in NFL history. Frank Gore really has no reputation so to say he is underrated is a bit of an overstatement. Though he is second in the league he only has four touchdowns and he has four fumbles inside the five yard line. one in which went for a 97 yrd fumble return touchdown against the Eagles. Curtis Martin is also another underrated football player.

I would have to go with a team defense and that will be the Raiders, the offense sucks but the defense is actually in the top 10.

I have to agree with the Marvin Harrison statement. He is overshadowed by Terrell Owen's big mout. Quiet Marvin Harrison can't get half the publicity with his skill like T.O. does with his mouth and attitude.
