I have heard variations on this scam, it works because you give them your bank details to lodge the money, then they withdraw money from your acount not deposit it.

another version of this scam (where they send you a cheque) is a problem because your bank will show a cheque as 'cleared' after 1 week, but the cheque from abroad may take 3 or 4 weeks to clear (or, rather, not clear) and when the cheque bounces the bank will remove the funds from your account. of course, by this time (assuming you are an honest person) you will have forwarded the funds back to the scammer................this version of the scam has been noted in transactions from all over the world, including legitimate (but stolen) business cheques from canada

If he owes you 15 quid, why would he bother giving you £2000 when he doesn't know if you're just going to take it out of your account and keep it.

Basically he wants your bank details to 'pay in £2000' then he'll empty your account, or do some kind of identity fraud, or use it for laundering or something. Don't do it.

SCAM ALL OVER IT

You will end up 2k down. Not through personal experience but you are going to get shafted. The money will be paid through a bank cheque that you think is rock solid and you will forward the difference because of that bank cheque. It will be a stolen or fraudulent cheque and definately not rock solid. In fact not even worth the paper it's on

You will get shafted trust me

Don't do it! It sound like one of those hoaxes you get via email as well, I have heard about too many people losing everything as a result of this kind of thing.
Sell the cot to the next person or give it to charity, its not worth the trouble this man could bring you

It is a scam and one that is widely used on EBay.
However despite what some of the idiots on here are saying, you will not be sent to jail if you were gullible enough to fall for it, though I have noted thankfully that you told them to take a running jump.
If you got sent to jail for being dumb then some of you lot had better watch out lol.

Didn't you read the news today with all the scams from abroad? They ask to put money in your account and all they do is take your details and clone them. Don't do it at all! Never give your account details to anybody, even if they say they are putting money into it!!!

YES!! it's a scam.
The money shows up in your account before the actual money is cleared by the bank. And then a week later the bank bounces the transfer and you've just lost the money that you've 'given back' to him, when you never had it in the first place.
