within a week (depending on how your baby is adjusting to the rice cereal) go ahead and introduce another cereal or maybe one with fruit in it.....try it for 3-4 days(checking for allergies) then try another.........if your son is doing well and seems eager to eat (most don't get the whole spoon thing so it may take a while) then go ahead and start Stage 1 baby food...experiment and let his taste buds go nuts!!

Well it's hard to say how soon because I don't know how old your son is. I know my doctor said at 6 months give a new fruit every week. But they usually start the rice cereal much younger than that and you can change to the oatmeal cereal etc two weeks after starting the rice just always wait a week in between so you will know what it is if there is some kind of reaction! Hope that helps~ Fun times!!

After my daughter had been eating the rice cereal for a couple of weeks, I then introduced sweet potatoes, pears, and applesauce mixed with the cereal and formula/breastmilk to the consistency of thick soup (like clam chowder for example). Now I just mix the cereal straight into the babyfood... she likes it thicker now. And she also likes the oatmeal much better than the rice too... must have more flavor :-) I waited a week between new things also...

She has had all of the Stage One (she hates peas though) and lots of the Stage 2 foods now, and she is 7 months old.

Hope this helps!

How old is he? I started all my kids on solids when formula wasnt satisfying them. Maybe around 2 to 3 months old. But only rice cereal or apple sauce. You might know when he needs more by they way he acts hungry. Stay away from peanut butter though, he could have an alergy to it. Experiment with the baby food in the jar. I love the expressions they give when they like it or hate it. Have fun!!

Older babies who are just starting solids may prefer chunkier finger foods, instead of mashed or moistened food. The baby who starts solids at 6 months or older doesn't need pureed or liquefied foods. You may want to just start with finger foods, and let her mostly feed herself.

How chunky can the food be? If your baby is not gagging & choking on the food, then the texture (table foods, etc.) is fine. Watch carefully the first few times your baby tries a new food to make sure she can handle it without gagging or choking. Always supervise your child when she is eating finger foods.

Suggestions for finger foods:

cubed soft foods
grated or scraped apple, pear, carrots
small pieces of ripe banana or avocado
sliced kiwi
cooked carrots/peas/green beans
cubed cooked yams, sweet or white potatoes
unsweetened dry breakfast cereals (cheerios, etc.)
slivers or finely chopped pieces of meat that has been softened with broth or warm water
cubes, strings, or small pieces of cheese
cooked pasta in shapes and colors sprinkled with some parmesan cheese
whole-grain bread strips
pieces of toast or crackers
dry waffles baby can carry around
frozen blueberries, peas, or corn right out of the package (great for relieving teething pain, but not appropriate for most babies under a year due to the choking hazard. See below warning.)

My babys doctor said to wait til 4 monthsand continue bottles also she said be sure do it from a spoon because the feeders and bottles could cause chocking she said after the baby had tolerated that for a few days then you could try adding veggies she said start with yellow veggies then green then fruits just start one thing at a time see how they reacte then after a few feedings of that move to something else
