I'm guessing that your in-laws have money, I'd back out of the situation totally, and leave it up to them and him. If you feel that your father is not a good choice to lend money, perhaps you should tell your in-laws that, and why. But either way when ever loaning family and friends money get a payment schedule in writing. You should encourage both to do that.

What an awful position your father has placed you in. My "spidey" sense says nothing good will come of this and you'll be smack dab in the middle of it. Ask your father to investigate other sources for a loan.
