As most will tell you with out a doubt it would be the best thing you could do, but at £ 4K its a bit on the steep side.
In the North East you would be looking at about £ 2K for a Worcester 28 with 8 thermostats and a radio controlled programmable thermostat. another £ 200 for the Greenstar 35 Cdi model. Shop around and get some other estimates preferably from recommended heating engineers ( not someone who will do it on a night or weekend )
Power flushing depends on the type of system that you have installed According to the CORGI magazine single pipe systems and micro bore systems CAN NOT be power flushed. Systems that have had inhibitor in for many years are usually very clean . If your existing hot water cylinder is of the primatic single feed type then it will need some cleaning.

Oh my God yes!!!! I had a combi boiler put in to replace a back boiler that was at least 29 years old 2 weeks ago. They finished the job on Weds tea time and by lunchtime Thurs I had a lovely warm house for this first time I can remember. I really didn't think it would make that much difference but now i don't have to hibernate in my room all winter like I did before. I had it fitted by a local independant company and I just got the bill today, just under £3k. Obviously don't know about the running costs yet but I'm sure it'll be cheaper because of the improved effeciency.
Good luck, stay warm x
By the way, the price was for the new boiler, all pipe work and flue, removing the old fire (not replaced yet) and old water tanks, and of course the contoller which is more like a remote control nowadays.

are radiators included in that price and what type of combi? that seems a bit much to me unless they quoted you for radiators and a big boiler

you will get the powerflush anyway

personally, for the environment and cutting down on your bills, yes, it's worth it, plus you'll get rid of those horrible tanks giving you more space...plus you wont have a limited number of fires that you can buy...and also, back boilers will be soon be a thing of the past

but the drawbacks are not being able to run both taps at the same time, without losing pressure...a small price I guess

the experts and cons in above answer are maximum appropriate, boiler fault no warm water, yet immediately's combi's are plenty greater good. the rigidity difficulty is diverse, in case you choose for a combi that's a sealed pressurised gadget often working as much as two bar(30 psi) the place your tank fed runs plenty decrease decrease than a million bar,the joints on your gadget will in all threat start up leaking. plus going as much as 22mm mains with 15mm branches to rads is greater effective

Combi boilers are a heck of a lot cheaper to run - and better for the environment. Unless you have a massive house - then they don't cope quite as well.

It's definately worth changing but don't buy from British gas, they;ll rip you off. If you know someone who'll fit it B and Q do great deals for a fraction of the cost

not unless there is something wrong with the boiler you have as the combi boilers are less reliable

Def - its the best thing I ever did. Saves space, economical, and water pressure improved as a result. It will also add value to your pace. Go for a Worcester Bosch
